L.A. Radio Trio Gets West Hollywood Welcome
November 2009

In early 2009, Los Angeles radio station 97.1 FM TALK was transformed into a less-expensive-to-produce music format. Casualties of this change included air personalities such as comedian Adam Carolla, the controversial Tom Leykis, and the popular trio of Frosty, Heidi and Frank. After several months of podcasting to satisfy their loyal fans, the trio has returned to the air as the newest addition to TALKRADIO 790 KABC. Station management planned a welcome back party and it goes without saying - no other city parties like West Hollywood.

Hundreds of people have packed Key Club on a Saturday night for this special event. Bodies are packed so tightly that undoubtedly some new friends will be made tonight. Despite the fact that the event is starting an hour late, everyone seems to be in a festive mood, except perhaps for the cocktail runners who are having a bit of trouble making their way through the crowd to serve drinks. After appearing on stage to make a few brief opening comments, Frosty, Heidi and Frank have bravely decided to venture into the crowd to mingle with their fans. Some in attendance appear happy just to say hello or get an autograph, while others are getting a little more personal with a hug or a kiss.

Frosty is a rotund figure who, by his own admission, loves food and has 'given up' on weight loss. He is also a musician and can often be heard playing an electronic keyboard during the FHF broadcast for comedic effect or to underline a point. Heidi frequently discusses previous relationships with both men and women, although she claims to be a lesbian. In addition to being a radio personality, Frank is also an entrepreneur selling merchandise such as drinking glasses, t-shirts, and even undies on his website FrankArmy.com.

As the trio makes their way through the sea of adoring fans, Key Club is rocking with live music. Providing the evening's entertainment are the bands Red Muffs (pictured) and Barbed Wire Boys. The music is nice and loud, the liquor is flowing and Frosty, Heidi and Frank (referred to on-air by listeners occasionally as 'The Triplets') seem to be most appreciative of all the attention. For those who think no one listens to live, local talk radio, the enthusiasm shown by this crowd seems to indicate otherwise.

Assuming they have offended someone, the trio ends each broadcast by apologizing individually to anyone or anything they have discussed during the show. Frosty, Heidi and Frank are back on the air weekdays from 9 am to noon on KABC and, judging from the turnout at tonight's welcome back party, no apologies are necessary.
