A Great Time Is In The Cards:
'Get Lucky for Lupus' Celebrity Poker Tournament
West Hollywood, California
February 2010

Celebrities and entertainment industry VIPs are arriving at the trendy Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood to ‘Get Lucky for Lupus’, a poker tournament and party benefiting Lupus LA. Designed to raise money and increase lupus awareness, this event promises to be an evening of tasty food, adult beverages and, of course, some serious poker.

Red carpet arrivals in the hotel lobby have produced such familiar faces as actors Lou Diamond Phillips and Melissa Joan Hart, actor/comedian Marlon Wayans, and Sanjaya Malakar of American Idol fame. Hunky, handsome Jesse Metcalfe is here and, if you’re a fan of Heroes, you’ll recognize James Kyson Lee who plays ‘Ando Masahashi’ on the hit series.

Following arrivals, it’s off to the panoramic banquet hall on the top floor of the hotel, already buzzing with activity. Celebrities are mingling with event guests and positioning themselves at the poker tables where the real action will take place. Not all the celebrities are here to play, however. Watching from the sidelines are Shante Broadus (wife of Snoop Dogg) and Jerry ‘The Beaver’ Mathers from the classic TV sitcom Leave It To Beaver. Mathers tells me he’s more of a watcher than a player when it comes to poker.

In addition to tonight’s poker fest, there is a silent and live auction featuring some truly unique items. As I scan the room, I see guitars, priceless photos, and valuable sports memorabilia. Guests have an opportunity to get a great deal while, at the same time, they help support a worthwhile cause. Judging from the enthusiastic bidding, this auction will be a win-win situation!

Sweet tooth? A colorful dessert station awaits!

While this event definitely provides an evening of star-studded fun, we must remember why we are here. Lupus is one of our country's most prevalent medical problems and it is on the rise. This well-organized bash will undoubtedly heighten awareness of the disease in an entertaining and memorable way.
